What is a Survival Node?
A Survival Node is emergency preparedness in the age of AI. On your Survival Node smart phone we strip away trackers, deep-debloat the OS to enhance performance and longevity, load it with 50GB+ of offline survival intelligence, functional maps, and a custom AI Survival Agent running on a premiere open-source LLM and then seal it in a Faraday bag inside a weather proof hard case - the included high performance solar battery keeps your device charged even when the grid is off.

The Survival Node Offline Software Suite
Offline Knowledge
50GB+ of pre-loaded survival apps including entire map and direction system of the entire United States, a full medical wiki, and survival libraries for no-signal scenarios.
Want to know the exact directions to get from Montana to Texas? Need to know if that plant is edible? Survival Node has the answers.
Local AI
Three privacy-focused Large Language Models (LLMs) run entirely offline with zero data tracking.
We go further: every Survival Node ships with a custom AI Agent — named "Survival Node" — already configured inside the PocketPal app. Tuned for survival, field engineering, and emergency response. No fluff, direct answers, critical safety warnings called out
Survival books and apps are great but they are static — the custom AI survival Agent lets you ask follow-up questions and find solutions that fit your exact scenario.
Hardened OS
Every Survival Node ships with a de-bloated Android OS, optimized for performance and longevity. All unnecessary tracking and battery-draining software is removed in every configuration.
"Information is the ultimate survival resource. The Survival Node is your off-grid brain — a reservoir of critical knowledge and AI-powered problem-solving that works when the grid doesn't. It's not just a device, it's a lifeline to clarity and informed action when it matters most."
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Survival Node mission-ready out of the box?
Yes. It ships preloaded with a hardened OS and core offline tools, so it works on day one. The AI app (PocketPal) also comes with a custom survival AI Agent — named "Survival Node" — already configured and ready to use. No blank chat window, no setup required. The full User Guide is also pre-loaded on the device — open the Files folder on the home screen to find it. For best performance, run through it to lock in your maps, local data, and fallback configs.
Can I still run normal apps like banking or streaming?
Some mainstream apps may fail or behave differently. The Survival Node is built for resilience and privacy under pressure—not for ad-tech convenience and always-online app ecosystems. We recommend only using the phone for emergency situations.
How do I store it so it actually works when I need it?
Keep it dry, temperature-stable, and out of prolonged heat. Recharge the power hub every 6–12 months. The case includes a reusable silica gel pack — when the blue indicator dot turns light pink, recharge it by placing the pack dot-side up and microwaving for 3–5 minutes. Once the dot turns blue again, it is ready to reuse. Preparedness gear only works if you maintain it—ignore it and it will fail at the worst time.
Can the solar panel keep the kit charged indefinitely?
For all-day normal use — no. But this isn't a normal-use device. Under emergency conditions, where you use the phone for a specific task and then power it off, the solar battery can sustain the kit for a very long time. Eastern Shore AI founder Chris Gorham has powered his test Survival Node exclusively via solar for over 6 months. The key habit: use it, then shut it off. Solar input accumulates while the phone is powered off, and brief emergency sessions draw far less than the panel replenishes over a day of sunlight. Use wall power whenever it's available to top off your reserve.
What support and warranty are included?
Every kit includes a 30-day Eastern Shore AI, LLC warranty. Original manufacturer warranties are non-transferable and may be void due to OS modification. Every Survival Node is built on a Motorola Moto G Power (2024) — brand new or open box — hand-vetted for battery life, memory performance, and overall suitability before shipment.
Why can't I just install a local model / AI chatbot on my every day phone instead of buying a Survival Node?
Of course you can install an LLM / AI chat bot on your every day use phone (and you should!).
Battery wear from daily use. Your everyday phone is already taking a beating — charged every night, drained throughout the day, charged again. That daily cycle degrades battery capacity over time. Now add a local LLM on top of that: AI inference is one of the most battery-intensive workloads a phone can run. Running it regularly on your daily driver accelerates that wear even further. Your Survival Node is a dedicated device that sits in storage between uses, its battery preserved at the right charge level, ready to go when you actually need it — not degraded from two years of Instagram and Google Maps.
Storage space. The Survival Node Pro Software Suite is 50GB+. The offline maps alone can be tens of gigabytes depending on your region. Add three LLM model files, a full offline Wikipedia snapshot, survival libraries, and the rest of the app stack — your everyday phone almost certainly doesn't have that headroom, and even if it does, you probably don't want to give it up. The Survival Node is sourced specifically with 90GB+ internal storage to handle the full load without compromise.
A dedicated, optimized device. Your Survival Node 8GB Core Unit phone has its OS hardened before it ships — Every Survival Node ships with a de-bloated Android OS, optimized for performance and longevity. All bloatware, carrier apps, and unnecessary background processes are removed — freeing up RAM for AI inference and extending device longevity. It does one job and does it well. Your everyday phone has to juggle everything else in your life.
Every Survival Node includes two Faraday bags — one for the phone, one for the solar battery — signal-blocking enclosures that protect against RF tracking and electromagnetic interference. Your everyday phone would have none of that protection.
So, while you can run a local LLM on your personal phone, the Survival Node is purpose-built for this use case — better performance, dedicated storage, a preserved battery, and a pre-configured survival software stack. It's a ready-to-go survival brain, not an afterthought on a device that's already doing too much.
Your Survival Node also ships with a custom AI persona already configured in PocketPal — named "Survival Node" — tuned specifically for survival, field engineering, and emergency response. On a personal phone, you'd be staring at a blank chat window. Here, you open the app, select the persona, and it's already optimized to give you direct, no-fluff answers with critical safety warnings called out automatically.
Can't I just buy all these components on my own on Amazon?
Technically, yes — all of the individual hardware components are available online. But what you'd actually be buying from us is the configuration, vetting, and time, not just a pile of parts.
Here's what goes into every Survival Node before it ships:
- Phone sourcing and inspection: Every Survival Node is built on a Motorola Moto G Power (2024) — brand new or open box — hand-vetted for battery life, memory performance, and overall suitability. Every unit is tested using AccuBattery and diagnostic tools at intake, after OS install, and again before it ships. Finding a listing on Amazon that discloses actual battery health is nearly impossible.
- OS installation: We perform a deep debloat of the Android OS — removing all tracking, carrier apps, and battery-draining software to optimize for performance and longevity. Debloating at this depth requires unlocking the bootloader — a process that differs by manufacturer and model, voids your warranty, and can hard-brick the phone if done incorrectly. We've done it dozens of times and know what we're doing.
- Software suite configuration: The survival apps, offline maps, and AI models are pre-loaded, tested, and configured to work together. That includes a custom AI persona — named "Survival Node" — already set up in PocketPal with a field-optimized system prompt tuned for survival, engineering, and emergency response. Sourcing, downloading, and sideloading 50GB+ of apps and models yourself — then configuring and verifying everything actually works offline — is a real time investment.
- Component compatibility: The Faraday bags, solar battery, and cables are selected to fit and work together as a system. Buying them piecemeal means researching compatibility, sizing, and shielding specs yourself.
- Support: If something doesn't work after a DIY build, you're on your own. Every Survival Node comes with 30 days of direct support from us.
We've tested every component in the Survival Node working together for over a year — specifically asking the question: will this actually work after sitting in storage, with no power, no internet, and no cell coverage for an extended period? The answer is yes, and that answer took real time and iteration to earn.
If you're comfortable flashing custom firmware and enjoy building things from scratch, the DIY path is absolutely viable — and we even offer a BYOG (Bring Your Own Gear) option where we do the OS and software setup on your existing compatible device for $69.99. But if you want a tested, ready-to-go system you can store and trust, the Survival Node is the faster and lower-risk path.
How does the Survival Node compare to other off-grid AI products — like Raspberry Pi builds or tablet setups?
Other products in this space typically use a Raspberry Pi, a laptop, or a tablet as the base hardware — and those are all legitimate options, with one critical problem: power.
In a long-term grid-down scenario, keeping a laptop charged with a solar battery is genuinely difficult. Laptops draw 30–80W+ under load — a solar panel that works well for a phone will barely trickle-charge a laptop, especially on overcast days. Tablets are better, but still draw significantly more power than a phone, and few tablets are designed to run machine learning workloads efficiently.
A smartphone is the most power-efficient computing platform ever built for its performance class. It runs on a battery measured in watt-hours, not tens of watt-hours — and our included solar battery can fully charge it multiple times over. That power efficiency is what makes the Survival Node viable for genuine long-term grid independence, not just a short power outage.
Why a phone specifically — and why 8GB RAM?
- Processing power to run models locally: Most phones don't have enough RAM to run a meaningful local AI model at all. We specifically source 8GB RAM units because that's the minimum floor for loading a capable quantized LLM in memory and getting real, useful output — not a toy chatbot. Raspberry Pi builds often hit this same wall: the 8GB Pi 5 is close, but then you're back to power draw and form factor problems.
- The perfect survival app platform: A phone already has offline maps, a GPS chip, a camera, a flashlight, a compass, Bluetooth, a SIM slot for cellular when towers are up, and a mature app ecosystem of survival and field-reference tools. A Raspberry Pi needs peripherals, a screen, a keyboard, and a case before it's even usable in the field.
- Ask questions with your voice: The built-in microphone lets you speak your question instead of typing it. In a field situation — hands dirty, cold, dealing with an injury or equipment problem — being able to just ask out loud is a real advantage over a keyboard.
- Pocketable and deployable: The Survival Node fits in a cargo pocket or a pack. A Raspberry Pi build requires a bag just to carry the components. A laptop requires its own case and charger. In an emergency, form factor matters.
- Sealed and ready: Our phone arrives with the OS hardened, software pre-loaded, maps downloaded, AI persona configured, and battery tested. A Raspberry Pi build requires flashing an OS image, wiring components, solving dependencies, and configuring everything yourself — none of which you want to be doing when you actually need it.
If you're technically inclined and want to build something from scratch, a Raspberry Pi is a great project. But the Survival Node is an operational tool built around the most practical form factor for off-grid AI — and one that can be solar-recharged indefinitely with real-world hardware, not a lab setup.
Does the Survival Node need cell service or an internet connection to work?
No — and that's the entire point. Every app, map, AI model, and reference library on the Survival Node runs entirely offline. No cell signal, no Wi-Fi, no cloud dependency. Once it's set up and in your hands, it works anywhere on earth regardless of what's happening to the power grid, cell towers, or internet infrastructure.
What does "EMP-hardened" mean and how do the Faraday bags protect my gear?
An electromagnetic pulse (EMP) — from a nuclear detonation, high-powered microwave weapon, or an extreme solar flare — can fry unshielded electronics instantly. A Faraday bag is a signal-blocking enclosure that isolates everything inside from electromagnetic interference. Every Survival Node includes two Faraday bags — one for the phone, one for the solar battery. Protection is only effective when the bags are fully sealed per manufacturer instructions.
Can I trust the AI to give me accurate information during an emergency?
Use it as a knowledgeable reference tool — not a replacement for trained professionals. The offline LLMs are powerful research assistants: great for cross-referencing symptoms, looking up procedures, or thinking through a problem. But AI can be wrong, and in high-stakes situations you should validate critical decisions against the other reference libraries on the device (first aid guides, medical wiki, survival handbooks). Never substitute AI output for professional medical, legal, or tactical guidance when qualified help is available.
Does the AI come pre-configured for emergency use, or do I have to set it up myself?
It's ready to go out of the box. Every Survival Node ships with a custom AI persona — named "Survival Node" — already configured inside PocketPal. It was built specifically for survival, field engineering, and emergency response: no introductory filler, direct answers first, critical safety warnings called out in bold, and every response formatted in numbered steps and bullet points. Open the app, tap the upward arrow (↑) to the left of the chat input, tap the Pals tab, and select Survival Node — the system prompt is applied automatically. The full system prompt used to configure it is saved to the Documents folder on the device, and a copy is pinned to the home screen alongside the other pre-loaded apps for quick access — so you can restore or customize it any time. The complete User Guide is pre-loaded on the device as well — open the Files folder on the home screen to access it offline. See the PocketPal section in the User Guide for the complete prompt and step-by-step instructions.
Can I add my own apps or update the AI models after I receive it?
Yes. Every Survival Node runs a de-bloated Android OS — all configurations support side-loading apps via APK. You can install additional apps as long as they are compatible and don't require Google Play Services (which are not installed by default in any configuration). The pre-installed AI chat app (PocketPal) also supports downloading and swapping additional offline LLM model files. For a step-by-step walkthrough on updating models, see the Maintenance section in the User Guide.
I already have a compatible Android phone — do I have to buy a whole kit?
No. The BYOG (Bring Your Own Gear) option lets us wipe your existing compatible Android device, perform a deep Android debloat optimized for performance and longevity, and load the full Survival Node Software Suite — 50GB+ of survival apps and 3 offline LLMs — onto your hardware for $69.99. You skip the hardware cost and still get the same hardened OS and software stack. Book the BYOG Setup → Available only to residents of the Eastern Shore of Maryland.
Does this ship outside the continental United States?
Not at this time. All Survival Node orders ship via USPS or UPS ground transportation to continental U.S. destinations only. Alaska, Hawaii, U.S. territories, and international destinations are not currently supported due to federal regulations governing lithium-ion batteries and cellular devices. Please allow up to 7 business days for processing and up to 10 additional business days for transit after shipment.
What is the phone model? Is it new, refurbished, or used? How is the battery life?
Every Survival Node is built on a Motorola Moto G Power (2024) — brand new or open box. All units are hand-vetted for battery life, memory performance, and overall suitability before shipment.
Battery life: All phone batteries are inspected using AccuBattery upon receipt, during OS setup, and again before shipment. Because the OS is hardened and stripped of bloatware and unnecessary background processes in every configuration, the device generally achieves better battery endurance than a stock Android phone with the same hardware — more of the battery goes toward what you're actually doing.
Can it make calls and texts without internet?
Yes — the Survival Node is a fully functional phone but does not come with a SIM card. With a SIM card installed, it can make standard calls and send texts over any available carrier signal, just like any other phone. What it does completely without any signal (no carrier, no Wi-Fi) is everything in the software suite: AI chat, offline maps, first aid guides, and all reference libraries.
How do you update the maps and AI models over time?
The Core Unit Smart Phone and any apps installed can be updated whenever you have access to a Wi-Fi connection. The offline map app allows you to re-download updated map tiles at any time. The AI chat app (PocketPal) supports downloading new or updated LLM model files directly on the device — you can also swap in larger or more capable models as they become available. For a step-by-step walkthrough on updating both, see the Maintenance section in the Survival Node User Guide.
Is there a return policy beyond 30 days?
No — the return window is 30 days from delivery, after which all sales are final. To be eligible, the device must be in original functional condition and the OS must not have been further modified after purchase. Return shipping is the buyer's responsibility. Items with physical damage caused after receipt are not eligible for return. Returns must be shipped back to Eastern Shore AI, LLC at the address listed in the return instructions.
What are the phone's storage and RAM specs?
The "8GB" in "Survival Node 8GB Core Unit" refers to RAM (memory). The Motorola Moto G Power (2024) ships with 8GB of RAM — the minimum we consider viable for running local AI inference and the full software suite. Because the OS runs with a much lighter memory footprint than an unmodified Android install, the device handles local AI inference and the full software suite more efficiently than the raw specs might suggest on a standard build. Internal storage is 128GB, of which 90GB+ is available for the software suite after the OS and pre-installed apps.
Does the original manufacturer's hardware warranty still apply?
No. OS modification — a deep Android debloat — voids any remaining manufacturer warranty on the device. Eastern Shore AI, LLC provides its own 30-day limited warranty covering defects in hardware function and software configuration as delivered. See the Warranty & Liability Disclaimer at the bottom of this page for full details.
