Each unit is battery-tested three times with Battery Bot Pro (test is ensure health status is "GOOD" in app): at intake inspection, after OS installation, and again before shipment. AccuBattery discharge test is conducted on each unit prior to shipment. Units that fall below 80% battery health are rejected.

The manufacturer rating of 42,800 mAh is a fairly large capacity for a solar battery. To put it in perspective: the Moto G Power's battery is approximately 5,000 mAh. That means this solar battery, in theory, can fully recharge the phone roughly 8–9 times from dead - from the testing we've done we found it to be closer to 3-4 times. But optimal battery storage practices are essential for maintaining your Survival Node over time. Our testing routine is to charge the phone to 60% after use, which is considered by many to be the optimal long term battery storage level (source: TechFine - How to Store A Lithium Ion Battery) So while it is capable of fully charging the phone 4 times, the actual number may vary based on usage patterns and environmental conditions and we don't believe that to be the best way to do it anyway.

Solar input is not fast enough to sustain all-day normal use — but under emergency conditions (use the phone for ~30 minutes, then power it off), the large capacity reserve plus solar trickle can sustain the kit for an extended period. Eastern Shore AI founder Chris Gorham has run his test unit on solar only for 6+ months.
